Hello Ken thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Thank you for your blog.

The young soldier in the picture Stanley W Dix, well that is my uncle. I just want to let you know how much I appreciate you mentioning him in your blog. I am so proud to tell everyone how heroic my uncle was in his last battle.

My question for you is, did you personally know him and what can you tell me about him?

Thank you again,

Lisa Dix Rodgers

Lisa, Yes, I personally knew Stanley. We both were drafted into the same platoon @ Ft. Lewis and we stayed together until his untimely death on 7/23/1967 in our NVA battle of Plei Ya Bo (3 Trees). Would you by anyway be a sister to Stanley Wesley Dix Junior. He was a nephew to Stan and he also wanted to know about Stan's death and what he did to obtain the Silver Star Posthumously and I told told him with a reference to his death in Charlie Flood's Book, "The Death of the Innocence". Charlie was with us during this battle but has more recently passed. Then he asked me about an item in Stan's old chest, a section of a $1usd and If I had another section to it like in blood brothers that after our war we would meet together again and place our pieces all together once again. I told him no I didn't, for I missed our boat ride due to a knee injury at Ft. Lewis and I rejoined them a month or so later after I flew over!

Stanley was also our tunnel rat! He was small in stature but large in courage. All we were required to do for him was to give him a .45 Semi-auto hand gun, a big bowie knife and a flashlight and point out to him the tunnel. He always returned to the outside of the tunnel and gave his report on his findings to our Company C.O. and then our C.O. would give us the orders to frag the tunnel thus caving it in! We always figured that if he met the grim reaper it would be in one of the many tunnels and not when he took on a crew served .51 caliber NVA machine gun!
